the cultural scientist gernot böhme announced 1995, that a designer can now be described as a designer of surfaces. as an allegory for that he named the chipboard. only the veneer - glued on a shape - generates the meaning. the material underneath got indifferent. but: our world was not exchanged by its own simulation out of chipboards. indeed, you can observe the opposite. it‘s like we have just noticed that we are living among materials, that we are material. the proclamation of the material turn determines a new implementation of the depth, presence and sensuality of material. this development implicates a change in the point of view of material itself. how designers have dealt with material? how they have perceived it? which significance they have given to it? i am happy to send you the full version.
